Prohibition has been proven to not work so instead of making things like liquor, cigarettes, and gambling illegal; federal, state, and local governments impose ever increasing taxes in order to drive prices higher and weed out those who can’t afford them. Instead of being a pawn to the government and lining the pockets of a crooked politician choose to kick the habits yourself and save a substantial amount of money in the process.
Its 2015 people! The brick and mortar store is dead. Sure your Super Targets and Walmarts still serve a purpose for now, but beyond that there is no point. The only people who still shop at BestBuy are your grandparents and that is only because they refuse to use the internet and remember that one Circuit City ad from the early 90s.
This is the oldest and the truest trick in the book, the difference is that everyone knows it now and, though they don’t want to show it, they are willing to compete for your business. The second you call a company to let them know that you are switching over to the dark side they will find discounts they didn’t know they had. The classic example is cable but other companies that we often view as utilities like car insurance and garbage collection will extend the same discounted olive branch.
In 2015 rewards programs are where it is at. Everyone has them and if you don’t take advantage of them then you are a fool. In the past year my wife and I have – without exaggeration – probably made about $1,000 in rewards from various rewards programs in the past year and that is not even counting discounts.
